What is a spring pin?
A Spring Pin is a non-threaded mechanical fastener. The pin is a hollow cylinder with a longitudinal slot over the entire length. All pins have an angled chamfer which allows and eases insertion into the hole, and the slot allows compression during insertion. After insertion the diameter expands to provide an outward radial tension over the entire length of the pin which holds the parts together. Common materials used are high carbon spring steel in a plain finish or plated, 420 corrosion resistant stainless, and 300 non-magnetic series stainless. The combination of size, materials, and heat treating, make spring pins a universal fastener with simplicity, inherent advantages, and cost saving features for many assembly applications.
